Pune-based electric two-wheeler manufacturer, Avan Motors, has launched the Xero+ in India. In the current e-scooter space, the Xero+ faces competition from the Okinawa Praise and the Hero Electric Optima. Here’s how the e-scooters stack up against each other.
Design
The Xero+ is a premium e-scooter from Avan Motors. It features a conventional design but with a few unique design highlights that make the scooter standout in the crowd. The scooter has a large floorboard area and a utility box mounted on the base plate after the seat. The Okinawa Praise is the most aggressively styled e-scooter of the lot, sporting an LED headlamp and LED indicators. The scooter has sharp lines with a two-tone paint scheme and a backrest for the pillion rider for better comfort. On the other hand, the Hero Optima is a conservatively designed product with smooth flowing lines for easy acceptance by buyers.
Features
Beginning with the Xero+, the e-scooter features a pair of detachable lithium-ion batteries. The batteries can be conveniently charged from a regular wall-mounted plug point. The scooter also comes with a safety parking brake feature to prevent the scooter from rolling off when parked. The Praise comes packed with several features like a side-stand indicator, LED DRLs, anti-theft sensor, keyless entry and find-my-scooter function. It also features an LCD screen for the instrument console. For the Optima, the e-scooter features a detachable single lithium-ion battery that can be charged from the convenience of one’s home or office. The scooter features a USB port that is located on the right side of the handlebar and a digital speedometer for the instrument console.
Motive Power
Powering the Xero+ is an 800W BLDC motor wired to a 48V/24Ah lithium-ion battery that is capable of propelling the e-scooter up to 45kmph and over a gradient of eight degrees. The company claims that with a single battery, the Xero+ is capable of returning a range of 60km and with a two battery setup, a combined range of 110km. Each battery has a charge time of 2 to 4 hours.
In the case of the Praise, the e-scooter comes equipped with a 72V/45Ah lithium-ion battery paired with a 1000W BDLC motor. The scooter gets three modes- Economy, Sport and Turbo wherein one can ride the scooter at the speed of 35kmph, 60kmph and 75kmph, respectively. The company claims the Praise is capable of returning a range of 170-200km on a full charge which takes about 6 to 8 hours.
For the Optima, Hero has equipped the e-scooter with a 550W BLDC motor that receives its electric charge from a 48V/28Ah lithium-ion battery. On a full charge, which takes about 4 to 5 hours, the Optima, according to the company, returns a range of 56km while achieving a top speed of 37kmph. The scooter is capable of climbing a gradient of seven degrees.
Cycle Parts
The Avan Xero+ is suspended by telescopic forks up front and dual coil spring shock absorbers at the rear. Braking is done by a disc brake at the front and a drum brake unit at the rear. The scooter's maximum load carrying capacity is rated at 150kg. In the case of the Praise, it rides on telescopic forks up front and dual shock absorbers at the rear, both gas-charged. Stopping power comes from a single-sided dual disc setup at the front and a single disc brake at the rear. The Praise has the same load carrying capacity as the Xero+. For the Optima, the scooter is held by telescopic forks at the front and dual shock absorbers at the back. Braking is done by drum brakes at both ends.
Pricing
With an MRP of Rs 47,000, the Avan Xero+ is the most affordable e-scooter of the lot and offers a decent kit that covers most of the major features. The Okinawa Praise is the most expensive scooter here at Rs 59,889, but it packs a bold design with many features and premium cycle parts. Lastly, the Hero Electric Optima is priced at Rs 59,490 which puts it right between the other two scooters. Notably, despite its asking price, the Optima offers fewer features and equipment than the Avan Xero+.
