- Bajaj, Triumph formal alliance announcement on 24 January
- Will develop global middleweight motorcycle platform
- First bike launch expected in late 2021
It’s been 18 months since Bajaj and Triumph announced their non-equity alliance but the details of this alliance were never revealed. It looks like both the companies will finally announce this alliance officially on 24 January.
Through this alliance, both the companies will introduce motorcycles in the middleweight category. This is the same segment which is currently ruled by Royal Enfield, thanks to the impressive growth brought by the Classic 350. We believe Bajaj and Triumph with this partnership will develop and sell a motorcycle that will take on the Classic 350.
It is believe that Triumph will design and develop this motorcycle, whereas the Bajaj manufacture it at one of their plants in Maharashtra. But there’s a high chance of Bajaj having a big say in the development of these motorcycles platform as they know the segment the best. Plus, this is a global motorcycle, so the Pune-based manufacturer does have some knowledge about international markets as they have been doing business in countless countries.
According to our sources, this new motorcycle platform is likely to churn out two single cylinder motorcycles at the beginning. The early prototypes of these bikes are already ready at Triumph’s R&D facility in UK and are being tested extensively. We can expect the first motorcycle to make its way to the production line sometime late next year.
