Bajaj Auto has reported its sales data for the month on March 2020 and the FY2019-20. The domestic sales witnessed a 55% decline as the two-wheeler manufacturer sold 98,412 units in March 2020 as against 2,20,213 units in the corresponding month last year. The exports, on the other hand, saw a 9% increase. Bajaj Auto exported 1,12,56 last month as against 1,03,325 units in March 2019.
Overall, the company witnessed a 35% decline in year-on-year sales (domestic and export combined). The Pune-based two-wheeler brand sold 210,976 units in March 2020 as against 323,538 units in March last year.
The yearly sales, too, showed negative performance. The domestic market witnessed a 18% decline (2,078,348 in FY2019-20 vs 2,541,340 in FY2018-19) while the exports saw a 10% growth (1,869,220 in FY2019-20 vs 1,695,553 FY2018-19). In total, the company sold 3,947,568 two-wheelers in FY2019-20 as compared to 4,236,873 units in the previous financial year (FY2018-19).
The massive fall in the year-on-year numbers for March 2020 can be associated with the ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic that has forced businesses to temporarily shut down. Bajaj Auto, too, has suspended production at its plants in India until further notice.
