Bajaj Auto has reported a 22.3 per cent drop in domestic sales for two-wheelers in the first quarter of FY2017. The manufacturer sold 4,26,52 units from April-June 2017 as compared to 5,48,880 units it sold in the same time last year.
The manufacturer attributes the decline in sales to the automotive industry’s move from BS-III to BS-IV emission norms. Bajaj has not seen a major growth in sales after the Indian economy’s demonetisation period. That economic period affected the purchasing power of rural customers who contribute to a big number of Bajaj sales. While other manufacturers seem to be recovering, Bajaj has been showing a drop in sales since the past few months. Nevertheless, with the festive season around the corner and predictions of a good monsoon this fiscal, we can expect domestic sales to grow.
On the other hand, Bajaj saw a 7.8 per cent growth in exports. The manufacturer shipped 3,49,152 motorcycles as compared to 3,23,660 motorcycles it shipped in the first quarter of FY2016.
