Bajaj’s cruiser product had not been to the drawing board in a long time. The effects were beginning to show on its sales. Now, the company is planning a revival for the Avenger brand and a new bike might be launched this week.
The new Avenger will get a new powertrain and a cosmetic makeover to keep it up-to-date with the upcoming cruiser motorcycles. The current 220cc mill on the Avenger will be replaced by the motor from the Pulsar 200NS. This 200cc single-cylinder mill produces 23.5bhp of power, which is more than what the current powerplant on the Avenger churns out.
The new Avenger will be targeted at the executive segment as Bajaj believes that there is a need of a new motorcycle in this segment. The current Avenger retails to about 4,000 units per month and the new motorcycle is expected to push the sales further to 20,000 a month. This will assist the company's plan of increasing their present market share of 19 per cent in the motorcycle segment to 23 per cent.
For the past many years, we have seen new motorcycles and upgrades to Bajaj two-wheelers, but only with the Pulsar, Discover and Platina brands. The introduction of the new Avenger will also mean the launch of a new motorcycle brand after almost a decade for Bajaj. Stay tuned to BikeWale as we will get you more details about the bike.
