Bajaj plans to launch the new Avenger in the third quarter of this year. The cruiser motorcycle is expected to borrow the powertrain from the Pulsar 200NS and might get some cosmetic changes to keep it up-to-date with the upcoming new cruiser motorcycles.
The company has not yet revealed any specifications or changes that the Avenger will get, but reports suggest that the updated bike will be powered by the 200cc single-cylinder engine that powers the Pulsar 200NS. This motor churns out 23.5bhp of power, which is more than what the current 220cc mill on the present Avenger produces. Apart from the new powertrain, the motorcycle is expected to be restyled to bring in a fresh avatar for the bike.
S Ravikumar, head business development, said, “Our market share at the retail level has improved to 19.2 per cent by the end of June quarter. With the new Avenger due in Q3, new Pulsars have been very well received and the Discover 125 launched recently domestic volumes are expected to go up.”
Bajaj's net income has increased by a fair bit showing a growth of 37 per cent in the first quarter of this year. The manufacturer's income was aided by the dividend income from the KTM brand. The company believes this will get better with the introduction of the new models, which includes the new Avenger. The Avenger was the first cruiser motorcycle made by an Indian manufacturer in 2005 and still has a good demand. Let us hope the revamped version of the Avenger finds a similar demand when launched this year.
