- Bajaj suspends bookings of the Chetak electric scooter
- Production of the Chetak is yet to resume at the Chakan facility
- Waiting period for the previously booked units is around four to six months
Bajaj Auto has temporarily suspended the bookings of its new Chetak electric scooter following the disruptions caused due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, the waiting period for the scooters which have already been booked is around four to six months.
The customers who have booked the Chetak before 29 February will get the scooter delivered by the third quarter, between August to September period. As for those who have booked it after the said date, they will receive the Chetak only after September 2020. The deliveries will take place as per the booking sequence.
Bajaj has already resumed operations at its Chakan facility where the Chetak is manufactured. In spite of that, the production of the e-scooter hasn’t resumed yet as limited functions can be carried out in the factory, as per the directive issued by the government. Another reason for the delay is the disrupted supply of components from the vendors owing to the ongoing pandemic.
The Bajaj Chetak electric was launched in India in January this year and it is currently on sale only in Pune and Bangalore. Although the company intends to expand its retail network in more cities, the ongoing scenario clearly hints that the expansion plan has been pushed ahead.
