- Bajaj sells 510 units of the Chetak electric in April
- 307 units of the TVS iQube sold last month
- Highest ever sales number for the Chetak
The last month was tough for the overall Indian two-wheeler industry due to the COVID-19 lockdown in most regions. While the ICE segment majorly faced the brunt, even EV sales declined to a great extent. However, the Bajaj Chetak electric managed to register a decent amount of sales. By fetching 510 takers, the Chetak outsold its closest rival, the TVS iQube, by a significant margin. 307 units of the latter were sold in April 2021.
Even the individual sales of the Chetak saw a major improvement over March 2021 when Bajaj had sold only 90 units of the e-scooter. Interestingly, Bajaj has been enjoying good demand for the Chetak. Exemplifying this is the fact that the scooter was sold out within 48 hours after Bajaj had re-opened its online bookings last month. At present, bookings are suspended but interested customers can register on the official website to receive notification of the re-opening of bookings.
For a few months before April, the TVS iQube had been leading the battle over the Chetak. But in the last month, the latter not only performed better but its individual sales were also the highest till now. The TVS iQube and the Bajaj Chetak are the only electric two-wheelers introduced by mainstream ICE two-wheeler brands. Both of them are available in two cities for now. While the iQube can be bought only in Bengaluru and Delhi, the Chetak is sold in Pune and Bengaluru. We’ll see them being launched in more cities in the coming days.
