Bajaj Chetak electric scooter launching in India tomorrow

Bajaj is all set to launch its first electric scooter, the Chetak, in India tomorrow, 14 January. It was first unveiled in India in October 2019 and marks the brand’s re-entry in the scooter segment after a long hiatus. 

The electric scooter carries a styling reminiscent of the old Chetak with smooth-flowing lines across its curvy body panels. It sports a rounded headlamp with sleek turn indicators mounted on the wide front apron. At the rear, it boasts of an upswept underseat cowl with a sweeping design and a split tail lamp setup with turn indicators integrated in it.

Bajaj has equipped the electric Chetak with a plethora of modern features. It gets full-LED lighting along with sequentially glowing LED turn indicators for front and rear both. All the information is displayed on a circular, fully-digital LCD instrument cluster which can be paired with a smartphone via Bluetooth. Besides displaying the basic information, it also shows call and message notifications and gets turn-by turn navigation as well.

Powering the Chetak is an IP67 rated lithium-ion battery which is claimed to deliver a range of 95km and 85km in Eco and Sport modes, respectively. What’s more, it also features a reverse assist mode, regenerative braking and on-board Intelligent Battery Management System (IBMS) to control charging and discharging of the battery. As for the detailed specifications of the motor, they will be revealed at the official launch. 

Bajaj is expected to price the Chetak electric scooter between Rs 1-1.5 lakhs and the deliveries are likely to begin after a few weeks of the launch. It will compete against the Ather 450 electric scooter in the country.
