We had ridden Bajaj’s first ever electric two-wheeler, the Chetak, in January this year. It marks the Chakan-based bike maker’s foray into the burgeoning EV segment and reincarnation of the iconic ‘Chetak’ badge. Owing to the COVID-19 lockdown, bookings for the scooter were suspended in April but they are likely to restart next month. Now, while the prospective customers wait for that to happen, we bring you the detailed review image gallery of the Bajaj Chetak electric.
The design of the new Chetak is reminiscent of its petrol-powered forefather with plush-looking body panels sporting elegant lines all over.
Every element has been meticulously designed such as the circular LED headlamp housing a ‘C’ logo at the centre and the sleek turn indicators which glow in a sequential fashion.
The instrumentation setup is also a distinctive-looking circular LCD display showing a plethora of information which is neatly spread out.
The charging setup comprises of a built-in charger placed under the seat which can be connected to any 5-ampere power socket. The IP67-rated lithium-ion battery of the scooter takes around five hours to get fully charged.
Propelling the Chetak is a 3.8kW continuous electric motor which delivers power in two modes – Eco and Sport. This unit is capable of shoving the EV to a top speed of around 70kmph.
While the battery range in Eco mode is 95kms, the Sport mode brings it down to 85kms. These are the claimed figures and we couldn’t test the real world range as our stint with the Chetak was a brief one.
It rides on 12-inch wheels which are suspended by a retro-styled tubular link-type suspension at the front and a monoshock at the rear. The whole setup delivers a plush and comfortable ride quality.
The braking setup comprises of drums at both ends in the Urbane variant. The Premium model, meanwhile, gets a disc brake at the front.
Bajaj has priced the Chetak at Rs 1 lakh (Urbane) and Rs 1.15 lakh (Premium) (both prices are ex-showroom). In the electric scooter space, it goes up against the TVS iQube and Ather 450X.
