- Will feature a petrol and CNG setup
- Could be launched in multiple variants
- Likely to be priced around Rs. 90,000
Bajaj Auto is set to debut the world’s first mass-production CNG motorcycle tomorrow. It has been spotted a few times and we also came across the bike’s blueprints a few weeks ago. From that, we have managed to deduce a bunch of details and here is what we know so far about it.
Multiple variants
We have seen multiple spy shots of the upcoming Bajaj CNG bike. There have been two different test mules, so the odds of Bajaj offering multiple variants of its CNG bike are high. The two test bikes differed in terms of appearance and hardware. One of them had relatively simple and sober bodywork like a thoroughbred commuter whereas the other looked rugged. It featured a braced handlebar, handle guards, a bash plate and block pattern tyres.
While the Bajaj CNG bike is expected to be affordable anyway, offering multiple variants will allow the brand to cater to a wider range of potential buyers.
Hardware
Owing to its simple and purposeful build, the Bajaj CNG bike will get conventional telescopic front forks and a monoshock. Meanwhile, the braking hardware will comprise a front disc and rear drum brake setup and these could be mounted on 17-inch wheels.
Petrol and CNG setup
While the highlight here is that the upcoming Bajaj bike will get a CNG cylinder, its also worth noting that the setup will include a petrol fuel tank too. So, it will be petrol along with CNG. The blueprints have revealed that the CNG cylinder will be placed below the petrol tank. Even the recent teaser has revealed that the bike will get a proper switch to shift from petrol to CNG and vice versa.
Name and Expected Price
From the recently leaked web page on Bajaj’s official website, we have learnt that Bajaj could name its CNG bike ‘Freedom’. We expect it to be priced around Rs. 90,000 for the base model and about Rs. 95,000 for the top-spec one. However, the launch is just a day away and all the details will be revealed soon.
