Disappointing sales of the Bajaj Discover 150F might soon lead to the model being discontinued. Bajaj sold just 13 units of the Discover 150F in the last month, as opposed to the 16,530 units of the next in line 150cc commuter – the V15.
One of the reasons for the dismal performance of the Discover 150 can be attributed to cannibalism within the brand. Apart from the Discover 150F, Bajaj has four other 150cc motorcycles in its portfolio – the V15, Pulsar 150 DTS-i, Avenger 150 Street and the Pulsar AS150. Each of these motorcycles has a unique appeal and niche within the brand, which is something that the Discover 150F lacks. The semi-faired Discover 150F was targeted at customers looking for a stylish yet affordable commuter motorcycle, though this seems to have failed to attract the masses. Even when a customer visits a dealership, sales executives tend to recommend the motorcycle which is more profitable for them. As a result, the Discover 150F seems to have been put on the backburner for now.
While Bajaj maintains that the Discover 150F has not been discontinued and those wishing to buy one can visit a showroom, several Bajaj dealerships have already run out of stock of the Discover 150F. Such dealerships are pushing customers to buy the recently launched V15 or the more expensive Avenger 150 Street. The smaller Discover 125 on the other hand, is continuing to rake in over 12,000 units every month with no signs of slowing down.
