This festive season, Bajaj was expected to see a rise in its domestic sales compared to the previous month. But that didn’t happen, as Bajaj registered a drop of one per cent in domestic sales in the month of October. The company sold 2,11,553 motorcycles as against the 2,12,997 units in the same period last year. However, the export sales numbers have jumped by an impressive 20 per cent. The company exported 1,14,225 units last month as opposed to 94,895 units in October 2016.
Bajaj managed to achieve an overall growth of six per cent in October compared to the same month last year. The bike maker registered a combined sale of 3,25,778 motorcycles, as compared to 3,07,892 motorcycles sold in October 2016.
Bajaj has been suffering from poor sale figures since the announcement of demonetisation last year. Following that, the migration to BS IV emission norms further affected the company’s domestic sales. Nevertheless, Bajaj has been recording a jump in export numbers since the past few months. In the month of September, the company finally bounced back and recorded a seven per cent increase in domestic sales while the exports increased by 20 per cent in the month of September. The domestic sales, however, dipped back this month, while the exports have witnessed a stable growth.
