-The journey spanned over 51,000 km
-Completed by three riders on the Bajaj Dominar 400
-Traversed through 15 countries
The Bajaj Dominar 400 is now the first Indian motorcycle to complete the Polar Odyssey which is a journey from the Arctic to the Antarctic.
The journey covered around 51,000 km across three continents- North America, South America and Antarctica. It was completed by three riders- Deepak Kamath, Avinash PS, and Deepak Gupta who began the route from Tuktoyaktuk in the Arctic Circle and rode through 15 countries like Canada, USA, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, and Chile. The trio led by Deepak Kamath completed the Odyssey in Ushuaia in Argentina by the Antarctic Circle in 99 days.
Riding an average of 515 km a day, the Dominar 400 and the riders faced the most gruelling of weather conditions right from heavy rains, snow, blizzards and extreme climates going up to 54 degree Celsius in Death Valley, USA (the hottest place on earth) and dropping as low as -22 degrees Celsius in Antarctica. The roads across the journey also threw surprises in the form of slush, loose gravel, trails and off-road sections.
The Dominar 400s which were used got minor adjustments to suit the journey. It got an off-road style mudguard, tall windscreen, touring seats, knuckle guards, panniers, jerry cans and were also fitted with dual-sport tyres. Bajaj says that the entire Polar Odyssey was completed by the riders and the Dominar 400 without any major breakdown and without the help of any dedicated service or back-up team.
