Bajaj Motorcycles has launched their highest displacement bike yet – the Dominar 400 - at an introductory price of Rs 1.36 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the non-ABS version. The ABS version has been priced at Rs 1.50 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The Dominar 400 has now become the flagship model for the Pune-based manufacturer. It will compete with the Royal Enfields especially the Classic 350 with this pricing. The company is marketing the Dominar 400 as a power cruiser. In fact, when the concept was unveiled at 2014 Auto Expo, the company had called it the Pulsar CS400 where CS stood for cruiser sports. However, Bajaj decided not to associate this bike with the Pulsar brand and created a new brand instead.
The Dominar 400 is built around a perimeter frame and is powered by the same 373cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that is on the KTM 390 Duke. However, the power output has been toned down to 34.5bhp at 9000rpm and peak torque of 35Nm at 6500rpm. This engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox that has a slipper clutch. Bajaj claims a top speed of 148kmph for the Dominar 400 and it can do 0-100kmph in 8.23 seconds.
The Dominar 400 gets a 320mm disc in the front and 230mm disc at the rear. The bike is also equipped with dual-channel ABS. The Dominar 400 loses out on the upside-down forks that were seen on the CS400 concept. It rather gets 43mm telescopic forks at the front and an adjustable monoshock at the rear. The Dominar 400 tips the scale at 182kg. It has a fuel tank capacity of 13 litres, which is decent for a bike of this size. It gets full LED lights with auto headlamp function. The Dominar 400 is available in three colours – midnight blue, twilight plum and moon white.
The bookings for the Bajaj Dominar 400 will begin from today through 80 showrooms initially. However, the deliveries will only begin from mid-January. The bookings can also be done through Bajaj’s website with an advance payment of Rs 9000.
