Bajaj has hiked the price of its flagship model, the Dominar 400, by Rs 2,000. The motorcycle now retails at Rs 1.41 lakh for the standard model and Rs 1.55 lakh for the ABS model (both ex-showroom, Delhi). The company has also introduced a new matte black paint scheme for the motorcycle.
The hike of just over Rs 2,000 in the price of the Dominar 400 seems to an effect of the industry’s move to Goods and Service Tax. Motorcycles displacing more than 350cc are now being taxed with an additional cess of three per cent over the base 28 per cent tax. As such, Bajaj had to pass on the overhead cost to the customer.
As for the new paint scheme, bits like the fuel tank, tank shroud, radiator shroud, engine shroud, fender and rear panels are painted in matte black, giving the motorcycle a sinister appeal. Powering the Dominar 400 is a 373cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder DTS-i engine, delivering 34.5bhp and 35Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed transmission, which gets a slipper clutch. Apart from matte black, the Dominar 400 is also available in three paint schemes - white, blue and plum.
