Bajaj exported 6.83 lakh two wheelers in the April to September period of this year, maintaining its reign as the top two-wheeler exporter in India.
Through the first half of 2017-18, Bajaj’s export numbers recorded a 6.6 per cent increase as compared to the corresponding period in the last year. Latin America and a few countries in Africa are the biggest markets for Bajaj. The Boxer commuter motorcycle enjoys the highest demand, and the company exported 2.76 lakh units of the motorcycles in H1 2017-18. It was followed by the Pulsar and CT, of which 1.51 lakh and 1.03 lakh units were exported, respectively. The Pune-based manufacturer has also been increasing its share in the domestic market, and recorded a seven per cent increase in sales last month.
While the Indian market has been witnessing a rapid increase in demand for scooters, the export numbers do not mirror this pattern. The Honda Dio, is the only scooter in the list of top 10 two-wheeler exports, with 79,328 units shipped off to global market in H1 2017-18. Other motorcycles to make to this list are the TVS Star City, Apache, Bajaj Discover, Yamaha FZ, Hero Splendor and the Yamaha YD125.
