Bajaj Motorcycles is quite disappointed with the way its Discover brand has performed in the last few months. It recently lost its third place to TVS Motor Company making it quite difficult for the company to revive its sales in the mass market segment. In order get back its lost position, the Pune- based manufacturer may launch the Discover 150 next month.
Unlike other Discovers which look almost similar to each other, the Discover 150 is expected to be different, cosmetically. The 150 version will get a semi-fairing that will make it look quite premium and big. A prototype of the bike was spied testing few weeks ago, which carried the semi-fairing. Other things which we can expect are the components from the Discover 125ST, which has been discontinued from the Indian market due to poor demand. We will see many components like the alloy wheels, exhaust, seat, grab rail and the kick-starter from the Discover 125ST on this bike, in an attempt to lower costs. Being based on the Discover 125ST’s architecture, the Discover 150F will also get a monoshock, disc brake at the front.
Talking about its heart, the Discover 150 will be powered by a single-cylinder 150cc 4-valve DTS-i engine that will produce power close to 13bhp. A five-speed gearbox will transfer the power to the rear- wheel via a covered chain drive. Bajaj is known to keep their motorcycles prices competitive, we can expect the same for the Discover 150, which could be christened as Discover 150F, where F stands for faired.
