Bajaj’s most popular model, the Pulsar 150, is now BS6 compliant. The updated model is currently available in two variants including single disc and twin disc which are priced at Rs 94,956 and Rs 98,835, respectively. In the 150-160cc segment, the Honda Unicorn is an offering which is ideal for those seeking a reliable and comfortable motorcycle with a refined engine. Interestingly, Honda has increased its displacement with the BS6 update and now it is powered by a larger 162.7cc engine which makes 12.5bhp and 14Nm. The Unicorn BS6 costs Rs 93,593 which is considerable premium over its BS4 counterpart.
The BS6 model of the Yamaha FZ V3 costs Rs 5,000 more than the Pulsar 150 (twin disc). For that premium, you get a muscular-looking street bike with a full-LED headlamp and a fully-digital instrument cluster, things the Pulsar misses out on. Producing 12.2bhp and 13.6Nm from its 149cc engine, the FZ makes lesser power but nearly the same amount of torque as the Pulsar.
Although the TVS Apache RTR 160 feels dated in terms of design and equipment, the company has updated it for BS6 due to a fair demand from customers. It’s worth noting that despite more constrained emissions now, the 159.7cc motor of the Apache makes 0.3bhp and 0.9Nm more than its BS4 model, at 15.3bhp and 13.9Nm. TVS retails the Apache RTR 160 BS6 at Rs 93,500 (front disc) and Rs 96,500 (twin disc).
If your riding includes long distance touring as well, Bajaj has the Avenger Cruise 220 in its line-up. With an easy-to-reach handlebar and forward-set footpegs, it offers fairly comfortable ergonomics. Moreover, the healthy chrome treatment across its bodywork along with spoke wheel lend the motorcycle an old-school appeal. The BS6 Avenger Cruise 220 can be bought for Rs 1.16 lakhs.
Scooters have their own convenience and charm, and if you’re looking out for something sporty and powerful in this department, Aprilia has recently added the SR 160 in its line-up. It’s a larger displacement version of the long-running SR 150 with the same styling, features and cycle parts. While its 160cc engine is impressively peppy, it also delivers motorcycle-like handling, thanks to its large 14-inch wheels and well-tuned chassis and suspension setup. The Aprilia SR 160 carries a price tag of Rs 1.04 lakhs.
