The Bajaj Pulsar 150 and Honda Unicorn are the biggest rivals in the executive commuter motorcycle segment in India. The motorcycles, which recently received BS6 updates are also one of the highest-selling models for Bajaj and Honda respectively. Here, we check out how the Pulsar 150 and Unicorn fare against each other in this on-paper comparison.
Styling
The Honda Unicorn and Bajaj Pulsar 150 sport subtly stylish bodywork in tune with the segment. While the Unicorn has a sharp, triangular take to its design, the Pulsar has its distinctive tank shrouds and tail section with a split-tail lamp. It is also available in a sportier-looking variant that offers a split-seat, underbelly cowl, and sporty graphics.
Furthermore, the three ‘Neon’ colours that Bajaj offers with the base variant are anything but subtle as compared to the Honda Unicorn’s single-tone black, red and grey colours.
Engine
Bajaj has equipped the Pulsar 150 with a 149cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine with a fuel-injection system. This motor is coupled to a five-speed gearbox and produces 13.8bhp at 8,500rpm and 13.2Nm of torque at 6,500rpm.
On the other hand, the Honda Unicorn boasts of a bigger 162cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine. While this engine puts out lesser power than the Pulsar 150 at 12.5bhp, it offers a higher torque output of 14Nm. The Unicorn’s engine also comes mated to a five-speed transmission.
Features
The Honda Unicorn and Bajaj Pulsar 150 are both fitted with a single-channel ABS as standard. However, the Pulsar offers more features in the form of a digital display next to the analogue tachometer in comparison to the tripod analogue instrument cluster on the Unicorn.
Cycle Parts
Honda is offering the Unicorn in a single-variant which offers a 240mm disc up front and a 130mm drum brake at the rear. On the other hand, Bajaj offers the Pulsar 150 in an option of dual-disc as well. That variant motorcycle gets a 260mm front disc and a 230mm rear disc.
The Unicorn rides on 18-inch wheels suspended from telescopic forks up front and a mono-shock at the rear. Meanwhile, the Pulsar 150 uses 17-inch wheels at both ends. Suspension duties are looked after by telescopic forks at the front and twin-shocks at the rear.
Pricing
Bajaj has priced the base version of the Pulsar 150 at Rs 85,536. The single-disc version costs Rs 94,957 while the dual-disc variant is priced at Rs 98, 835. The Honda Unicorn is available in a single version which has a sticker price of Rs 93,593 (all prices ex-showroom).
