Bajaj Pulsar 220F ABS vs Suzuki Gixxer SF Fi ABS- Competition Check

Bajaj recently updated the Pulsar 220F with a single-channel ABS unit. While the bike did not have a direct competitor, it now comes closer to the Suzuki Gixxer SF Fi ABS in terms of pricing. We find out how the bikes stack up against each other.

Design and Features

The Pulsar 220F ABS bears the exact same styling as the 2009 bike. It gets the distinctive stacked-up projector headlamp housed in a semi-fairing. The bike also sports a step-seat with a sharp rear section with a split tail lamp setup. The Suzuki Gixxer SF on the other hand gets a full fairing. And since it is based on the streetfighter Gixxer, it shares its underpinnings with the latter. The bike has a sculpted fuel tank, slightly raised tail section and a uniquely-styled exhaust.

Bajaj has equipped the Pulsar 220F ABS with a semi-digital instrument cluster. While the tachometer is analogue, the digital unit displays odometer, trip meter, speed and fuel gauge. Meanwhile, the Suzuki offers a full-LCD screen that shows gear position and clock along with other basic information.

Engine

Powering the Suzuki Gixxer SF Fi is a 154cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected, air-cooled motor that puts out 14.6bhp and 14Nm of torque. This unit is mated to a five-speed gearbox. The Pulsar 220F uses a bigger, 220cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. This carburetted motor produces 21bhp and 19Nm of torque and is mated to a five-speed gearbox.

Cycle Parts

Both motorcycles ride on telescopic front forks and a rear monoshock. Braking duties on the Pulsar 220F ABS are taken care of by a 260mm front disc and a 230mm rear disc.

Meanwhile, the Gixxer SF gets a slightly larger 266mm front disc brake and a 220mm rear disc. The Pulsar 220F ABS and Gixxer SF Fi ABS are equipped with a single-channel ABS unit that controls the braking on the front wheel. The Bajaj Pulsar 220F ABS offers a larger 15-litre fuel tank as compared to the Gixxer SF’s 12-litre unit.

Pricing

Bajaj has priced the Pulsar 220F ABS at Rs 1.05 lakhs; an additional Rs 7,584 over the standard variant. The Suzuki Gixxer SF Fi ABS costs Rs 1.02 lakhs. You can also buy the carburetted version with ABS at Rs 98,354.
