Bajaj has launched the AS200 motorcycle in India for an introductory price of Rs 91,550 (ex-showroom Delhi). It is basically a faired version of the 200NS but has been dubbed an Adventure Sport (hence the AS) and gets a touring oriented design change from the standard bike.
The Pulsar AS200 is built around the same perimeter frame as the naked 200NS but gets a semi-faring which is believed to aid in aerodynamics as well as the aesthetics of the motorcycle. It gets the same instrument cluster and switch gear from the 2000NS but has now been fitted with a windscreen as well as a projector headlamp.
In terms of underpinnings, the AS200 has the same nitrox mono-suspension from the 200NS but has a wheelbase of 1363cm which is the longest in the segment. On the colour front, Bajaj is offering the AS200 in blue, black and red.
It gets a 200cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that produces 23.5bhp and 18Nm of torque with power going to the rear wheel via a chain-drive and six-speed gearbox. In terms of stopping power, Bajaj has fitted the AS200 with 280mm disc in the rear and a 230mm unit for the front wheel.
Commenting on the launch, Mr. Eric Vas, President – Motorcycles Business, Bajaj Auto Ltd, said, “The Pulsar Adventure Sport series will be a delight to young bikers who want to fulfil their need of daily city riding, while at the same time desire to explore our vast and incredible outdoors over the weekends. These new generation bikes are a winning combination of easy handling in traffic and raw brutal power when one needs it. The AS200 and AS150 truly define our customer’s spirit that adventure never stops”
The Bajaj Pulsar AS200 represents the next design leap for the Pulsar range of motorcycles ensuring that it will continue its successful run in the Indian market. The introductory price should ensure that Bajaj will get its initial volumes as it had planned.
