Bajaj Auto has been on a spree of updates for its Pulsar lineup. In the last few months, it has not only launched the NS400Z but also updated other bikes like the N160, and its siblings. So, we have compared the updated Bajaj Pulsar N160 with the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, to see which offers more value for money on paper.
Design
One thing that remains common for both bikes is they get a muscular and sporty design but the overall commuter stance is intact and balances the theme. The Pulsar N160 and the Apache RTR 160 4V look enticing and youthful. They come with an LED headlight flanked by a bulb setup for the turn indicators and can be bought in multiple colour options. The front end for these two looks distinct and attractive. The Pulsar N160 gets an LED projector bulb at the centre with eye brow-like LED DRLs while the Apache RTR 160 uses a horizontal LED strip with the low and high beams on either side.
Features
One of the major updates that Bajaj introduced with the 2024 Pulsar N160 was the introduction of the fully digital console with smartphone connectivity. The bike now boasts features such as call and SMS notifications, provision to accept and reject calls, and all other necessary readouts.
On the other hand, the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V gets all these features and ride modes too. However, the rider modes are offered as a default option on all variants of the Apache but the Bluetooth connectivity only comes with top-spec models. TVS also offers an adjustable brake and clutch lever with the special edition of the Apache RTR 160 4V. Overall, the TVS bike gets more features than the Pulsar.
Engine
Powering the Bajaj Pulsar N160 is a 164.82cc, single-cylinder engine. It makes 15.68bhp at 8,750rpm and 14.65Nm at 6,750rpm. The motor is linked to a five-speed gearbox. On the other hand, TVS uses a 159.7cc, oil-cooled motor and it pumps out 17.31bhp with 14.73Nm. Even in the performance department, the Apache takes the lead with higher power figures.
Hardware
Both bikes ride on telescopic front forks and a monoshock but the Pulsar’s rear spring gets a gas-charged system. The braking hardware includes a front and rear disc with dual-channel ABS. However, TVS offers a rear drum brake on the lower-spec variants of the Apache RTR 160 4V.
Price
The asking price for the Bajaj Pulsar N160 is set at Rs. 1,32,525 whereas the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V starts from Rs. 1,24,870 for the base model and goes to Rs. 1,38,670 (all ex-showroom, Delhi) for the top-spec trim. And if you were to spend just Rs. 500 more than the Pulsar N160’s price, then the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V Special edition would be a better option for Rs. 1.33 lakh.
