We recently faired the new Pulsar P150 against the TVS Apache RTR 160 on paper and here’s what we found out. However, the latest Bajaj offering has more than just one rival. And this time, it’s against the Hero Xtreme 160R. So, let’s compare the two bikes and see the differences/similarities.
Design
Bajaj has taken a completely different approach to the Pulsar P150’s design. Unlike the regular Pulsar 150, the P150 looks way more stylish, youthful, and sporty. It gets cuts and creases on the fuel tank and side panels and even the LED projector headlight is a unique touch for the 150-160cc segment. The split seat setup also gels well with the overall design. On the other hand, the Hero Xtreme 160R’s design packs more muscle and looks modern too. The LED headlight on the 160R is a good touch as well. Hero offers the Xtreme with handle guards for added protection.
Engine
The Bajaj Pulsar P150 draws power from a revamped 149cc single-cylinder air-cooled motor with output rated at 14.5bhp and 13.5Nm. It’s mated to a five speed gearbox and the overall performance is quite sprightly with a linear torque spread. The Hero Xtreme 160R packs a 163cc single-cylinder engine. It makes 15bhp and 14Nm and is linked to a five-speed gearbox. Similar to the P150, the Xtreme 160R is also fun to ride.
Features
The P150 gets LED illumination, USB charging port, ABS and a semi-digital instrument console for the features. Its cluster packs all the necessary readouts like the speedometer, odometer, tachometer, trip mete, fuel level readout, gear position indicator and more. Meanwhile, the Xtreme 160R gets LED illumination, LCD with adjustable brightness and smartphone connectivity. The latter allows you to pair your phone with the bike’s console and get access to tow away alert, topple alert, driving score, geo fence alert and more.
Hardware
Both the two-wheelers ride on telescopic front forks and a monoshock at the rear. Meanwhile, the P150 gets a 260mm front disc and a 230mm rear disc and the Xtreme 160R uses a 276mm front disc and 220mm rear disc. Both bikes get single-channel ABS only. The wheel size for the two bikes is 17-inch but the P150 gets 90/90 front tyre and 110/80 rear tyre and the Xtreme 160R’s wheels are wrapped with 100/80 front and 130/70 rear tyres.
Price
Bajaj has priced the P150 at Rs 1.19 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the twin disc model and the Hero Xtreme 160R costs Rs 1.21 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
