Bajaj Auto’s domestic motorcycle sales have jumped by six per cent in December 2017, as compared to the similar period in the last year. The company sold 1.12 lakh motorcycles in the last month as compared to 1.06 lakh motorcycles in December 2016.
With this performance, Bajaj has retained its position as the country’s fourth largest two-wheeler manufacturer. The demand for Bajaj motorcycles in international markets is even more impressive as the export numbers have shot past the domestic sales. The company shipped 1.15 lakh motorcycles in the last month, which is 20 per cent higher than the December 2016 export numbers. With 2.28 lakh motorcycles sold, Bajaj’s overall figure has jumped by 13 per cent.
Bajaj’s sales numbers took a big hit last year post the announcement of demonetisation and the industry’s move to BS IV emission norms. However, the company has been on a path to recovery since the onset of the festive season. Besides, the healthy monsoon has further boosted its sales. The company will be launching its MY2018 range in the next few weeks, which should give the sales another shot in the arm.
