Bajaj Auto Limited sales figures have remained almost the same with the two-wheeler major selling one per cent more units over December last year. The year-to-date sales from April to December have actually declined by one per cent over last year.
With the launch of their new motorcycles, the Bajaj AS series and the much recent Avengers, Bajaj would have wanted to end 2015 on a high. As we have reported before, the Avengers are eating into the Pulsar AS sales, robbing the Indian Pune-based manufacturer of the expected growth in numbers.
While the December 2015 sales at 2,47,782 units is one per cent more than the 2,46,233 units last year, the year-to-date sales from April to December have dipped by one per cent from 26,19,115 units to 26,05,733 units. This may also be due to the dip in export numbers to Latin America and Indonesia where the Pulsar 200NS is sold.
While Bajaj has not attributed the lack of growth to any particular reason, the increasing competition from domestic players like Honda, Yamaha, Hero, TVS and Suzuki might have a bearing on the sales figures. Bajaj has an extensive product line up with multiple variants of motorcycles sold under brands like Pulsar, Discover and Avenger. Bajaj might want to build a popular non-geared scooter to bite into the ever growing pie of the moped market in India.
