Bajaj has registered an 18 per cent drop in sales in December 2016. Motorcycle sales for the company dipped from 2.47 lakh units in December 2015 to 2.03 lakh units in the last month.
This is the second successive month in 2016 when Bajaj suffered from a decrease in demand. Domestic sales dropped by 11 per cent, falling from 1.6 lakh units to 1.2 lakh units. Even export numbers experienced a 24 per cent drop. Despite this, Bajaj has managed to hold on to the third spot in the Indian two-wheeler industry ahead of TVS Motors.
While December usually is a lean month for the auto industry, demonetisation has further hampered sales of two-wheelers in the last month. Manufacturers have been reporting a steep drop in dealership footfalls. To simplify cashless transactions, manufacturers have been rolling out a number of schemes. The Dominar 400, which was launched in December, is the first Bajaj product to get the option of online booking. Commuter motorcycle sales are expected to get a boost with the launch of the V12.
