Bajaj sales in June 2017 have dropped by 25 per cent, as compared to the corresponding period in the last year. The company sold 2.04 lakh motorcycles in the last month, retaining the fourth spot in the domestic market.
Of these, Bajaj sold 1.08 lakh motorcycles in the domestic market while the remaining 96,558 motorcycles were shipped off to its global markets. The domestic sales number is a whopping 36 per cent less than in June 2016, while exports experienced an eight per cent drop. Domestic sales for the first quarter were 22 per cent lower than in the corresponding period of 2016. The demand in global markets though, has grown by eight per cent.
Bajaj sales have been consistently dropping since the past few months, first due to demonetisation and more recently with the industry’s move to BS IV emission norms. However, the implementation of GST is expected to bring a marginal drop in prices of motorcycles and a positive outlook among consumers. This should help turn the tables and the get the sales numbers back in the positive over the next few months.
