After the launch of its most expensive bike – the Dominar – Bajaj plans for more action in the premium bike segment, which has been on the upswing lately. The company will launch another premium bike in the Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh price bracket in the next three months and the bike in question could be the Bajaj Scrambler.
Recently, Rajiv Bajaj, CEO, Bajaj Motorcycles spoke to Moneycontrol about its intention to launch a new premium bike between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 2 lakh. The top official said that it would like to introduce more products in the Dominar range in the next two-three months. However, he was vague about the brand positioning as he went on to say that the new product could be launched under the Dominar brand or KTM or even under a new brand. While this made us believe that Bajaj would introduce the Husqvarna as announced last year, but after talking to a few sources, we found that Bajaj is working on the Scrambler, based on the Dominar. In fact, the Pune-based manufacturer is currently in the process of registering the new brand and also looking for an agency to take care of the PR and ad work.
It’s no secret that Bajaj plans to offer more products with the Dominar platform and over the last few years, there has been a scrambler craze in international markets as well as in India. Ducati Scrambler saw a huge fan following in India. Its British rival Triumph also plans to introduce Street Scrambler later this year. Bajaj is known to experiment with new segments and the V15 and the V12 are the latest examples but it will be interesting to see if the Indian market accepts an affordable Scrambler from Bajaj.
We contacted Bajaj to get more insights on this development. However, the officials are tight-lipped about the upcoming product.
