Bajaj Auto has announced that its distributor in Sri Lanka, David Pieris Motor Company, has secured a repeat order from the government for the supply of 1.25 lakh Discover 125M motorcycles.
In a filing to the BSE, Bajaj Auto Ltd said: "The company has now secured a repeat order from them through its distributor in Sri Lanka for the supply of 1.25 lakh units of Discover 125M, which the company expects to execute in next 3-4 months.”
In a previous instance, the Pune-based manufacturer had landed an order for supply of 50,000 motorcycles, of which it has successfully delivered 48,000 units. Bajaj is currently India’s largest exporter of two-wheelers and three-wheelers. In the previous quarter, the company shipped off over 47 per cent of its vehicles manufactured in its three facilities in the country, to its other global markets.
Last month, Mr Pawan Munjal, the head honcho of Hero MotoCorp, had revealed that Sri Lanka, along with South Africa, was slowly emerging as one of its biggest export markets. Our country’s cost-effective manufacturing processes and low input costs have led to India becoming an export hub for a number of automotive manufacturers.
