Bajaj Motorcycles has sold 1 lakh units of the V15 – its 150cc executive commuter motorcycle since launch. So 1 lakh units in 120 days seems to be a pretty good deal, considering the fact that Bajaj experimented a bit with the design and marketing of the V15.
The whole intention of launching the V15 in the mass market 150cc segment is to add a little bit of flavour and aspirational value to a motorcycle. Currently, majority of the commuter bikes sold in India don’t look great and are focused more towards fuel efficiency and reliability. But the V15 has helped changed that mindset and with a price tag of Rs 63,000 (ex-showroom Pune), it has made a couple of 125cc bikes less tempting and desirable.
While the V15 averages 25,000 sales per month, it has helped Bajaj increase its market share in the 125cc+ segment by close to 10 per cent. However, when we spoke to Bajaj a couple of days ago, they said the exact performance of the V15 will be known by November. And in order to meet the growing demand, the Pune-based manufacturer is gearing up to ramp up its production by September.
