- Will setup CKD plant in Indonesia this year
- Duke 200, Duke 250, RC200, RC 250, RC390 to be assembled at the plant
- Currently in the process of getting the necessary clearances
Bajaj has decided to setup an assembly plant in Indonesia where it will assemble several KTM bikes. This decision was taken after the country responded well to the Austrian brand.
The company currently sells the KTM Duke 200 and 250 along with the RC series that has the RC200, the 250 and the RC390. However, these bikes are currently imported to Indonesia from India as completely-built-up (CBU) units attracting duties. The plan to set up a plant was made in order to avail the tax benefits and reduce the overall cost.
The company is currently in the process of getting all the necessary clearances from the Indonesian government. It plans to have the plant ready by the end of this year. After assembling at their new facility, it will sell these bikes to the local distributors.
“The plan for PT. Bajaj Auto Indonesia is to spearhead the development of KTM and Bajaj partnership and bring the jointly developed products into Indonesia. To take this further, all the required manufacturing, import, and business licenses have been renewed. Further, studies on the product acceptability have been conducted, which look favourable,” said Bajaj in its 2017-18 annual report.
