Bajaj Motorcycles has announced that it will increase the price of its motorcycles by up to Rs 1,500 in January.
The company says that the increase in costs is due to the rise in material prices. This price increase will also offset the impact of upgrading its entire product line-up to BS-IV emission norms. The Pune-based manufacturer has already launched a few BS-IV compliant models. In fact, it plans to upgrade the rest of its bikes to BS-IV by the middle of next month. The recently-launched Dominar 400 is not a part of this price hike.
"All two-wheeler manufacturers in the country are trying to be BS-IV compliant by April next year. We want to be the first ones to transition to the next emission levels. The price hike is due to the transition to BS4 and also to accommodate increase in raw material costs as well. The hike shall not affect recently launched products like the Dominar 400," said Eric Vas, president, Bajaj Motorcycles.
The increase in price is also a way by companies to push sales in December when sales usually are low. The Indian customers prefer to wait for a month and buy a product manufactured in the new calendar year, which helps them get better resale value when it is time to sell.
