Bajaj is going to make its foray in the Malaysian market in May 2017. The company has signed a deal with Malaysia two-wheeler manufacturer, Modenas, with the intention of launching the Dominar, Pulsar and V range in the country.
The deal between Modenas and Bajaj includes launching the latter’s motorcycles in the Malaysian market as well as exchange of technology between the two companies. Modenas already has a tie-up with Taiwanese scooter manufacturer, Kymco, and the venture with Bajaj will allow the company to launch motorcycles in Malaysia. The motorcycles will be exported from India through completely knocked down (CKD) route, and the final assembly will be done at Modenas’ production facility in Kedah.
Bajaj is the biggest exporter of two-wheelers in India. The company recently started handling the distribution network for KTM motorcycles in Indonesia. The initial response has been positive and the company is expecting to export 10,000 motorcycles every month over the next few months. Malaysia is not the only country in Bajaj’s radar, and the company will also be looking at building its brand in other ASEAN countries through a similar approach.
