Bajaj to launch the KTM Duke 390 ABS tomorrow in India

KTM Duke 390 ABS, the motorcycle that enthusiasts in the country have been waiting for will finally be launched tomorrow. The motorcycle was first previewed at the 2012 EICMA and is already on sale in few global markets. The interesting bit is that the motorcycle is produced at Bajaj’s Chakan plant and finally the much awaited motorcycle will be launched in India tomorrow.

KTM has developed the Duke 390 to bridge the gap between 200cc and 600cc – a category that is mainly targeted at developing markets like India.  Cosmetically, the motorcycle looks almost the same like the Duke 200 except the white tank, orange coloured alloys and trellis frame.

The Duke 390 is powered by a 373cc single-cylinder engine that produces power of 44bhp at 9500rpm and 35Nm of torque at 7250rpm. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox and has a dry weight of just 139kg, offering excellent power to weight ratio of 316bhp per tonne. The motorcycle has the capability to do 0-100kmph in 5 to 6 seconds and can attain a top speed of over 160kmph.

The Duke 390 will be sharing most of its parts from its younger sibling, the Duke 390. This would help the company save a lot of manufacturing costs with economies of scale and we are expecting the company will pass on the benefits to the consumer by pricing it decently.

Few Pro-Biking dealers have already started pre-bookings of the Duke 390. We are expecting the Duke 390 ABS to be priced between Rs 1.8 lakh and Rs 2 lakh ex-showroom.  Stay tuned to BikeWale as we get more details of the motorcycle live from the launch event.
