Bajaj Motorcycles has announced that it will launch two new motorcycles brands this year that will help them take on rival companies like Hero MotoCorp and Honda. Both the companies have been eating into the Pune- based manufacturer’s market share over the last few years.
As per a report by livemint, both the new brands will be slotted into the entry-level motorcycle segment which accounts for nearly two-thirds of the motorcycle in the Indian market. Till now, Bajaj was betting big on the Pulsar and the Discover brand, as majority of the sales comes from these two motorcycle portfolios. It still has the Platina in its line-up, however, the bike is due for a major update and is expected to come out in next few months. There is a high chance Bajaj will revive the Platina brand with a new name, that will help them bring some positive response to its entry-level motorcycle. While Bajaj has remained tight-lipped about its new brand, we can expect the company to continue its focus on the Pulsar and the Discover range of motorcycles.
“Strategy is always a matter of adapting oneself to the changes in the market place. While a company’s strategy cannot change very six months, it is necessary for the firm to evolve the strategy on a five or 10-year basis. So, in that context, we are planning to launch two new brands this year,” said Rajiv Bajaj, managing director, Bajaj Motorcycles.
