Bajaj will start exporting KTM bikes, manufactured in India, to the US by the end of this year. The company will be the first Indian manufacturer to export motorcycles to the United States.
At present Bajaj Auto owns 47 per cent in the Austrian sports motorcycle firm KTM Power Sports AG. The company manufactures some of the models like the Duke 125, Duke 200 and Duke 390 at its Chakan facility near Pune and exports it to many countries. We expect the upcoming RC series of motorcycles that includes the RC 200 and the RC 390 to be produced here and sold overseas. These two bikes are due for a launch next month. KTM hasn’t confirmed which bikes will make it to the US but we expect all these motorcycles to be exported to the US later this year.
Bajaj Auto had recently announced that the company will continue to focus on motorcycles and is not thinking of venturing into the scooter segment for now. They foresee an enormous potential in the Africa region as shipments to Nigeria have increased to 50,000 units a month and are expected to boost further to 70,000 this year.
Looking at the past one year, Bajaj has entered many new countries like Argentina and Mexico and plans to introduce products in Brazil too. They consider it to be one of the biggest Latin American markets for two-wheelers and will set foot in that country next year with its partner KTM.
