Bajaj is going to set up shop in Thailand over the next couple of months. This step is a part of the company’s plan of widening footprint in south-east Asia.
Speaking to PTI, S Ravikumar, president (business development and assurance), Bajaj Auto said, "South east Asia is a big market for two-wheelers. We are getting good response from Malaysia and now in a couple of months, we will also start exporting to Thailand." Earlier this year, Bajaj made its foray in to Malaysia by joining hands with a local player, Modenas. The company has so far launched the Pulsar and the V range in the country. For Thailand however, Bajaj will be exporting both motorcycles as well as commercial vehicles.
Bajaj shipped off 4.09 lakhs motorcycles to its global markets in the last quarter. While a few markets like Sri Lanka have seen a drop in sales, others like Nigeria, Colombia and Philippines have witnessed a good demand. Apart from Thailand, Bajaj is looking at expanding to three more markets over the next few months.
