- To be launched in India on 5 July, 2023
- Street 400 will rival Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Honda CB350RS
- Street Scrambler 400 will rival Royal Enfield Scram 411 and Yezdi Scrambler
The first couple of motorcycles to come out of the Bajaj-Triumph partnership will make their global debut today, 27 June, 2023, in London, UK. These motorcycles, likely to be called the Triumph Street 400 and the Street Scrambler 400 will be launched in India on 5 July 2023.
The new motorcycles are jointly developed by Bajaj Auto and Triumph Motorcycles will be manufactured at Bajaj’s manufacturing plant in Chakan, Maharashtra. The Street 400 is a modern-retro street naked that will compete against the likes of the Royal Enfield Hunter 350, Classic 350, and the Honda CB350RS. Meanwhile, the Triumph Street Scrambler 400, as the name suggests, is a proper scrambler with a larger front wheel and dual-purpose tyres. It will rival the Royal Enfield Scram 411 and the Yezdi Scrambler in India.
Both motorcycles will feature the same chassis, fuel tank, and headlamp. However, while the Street 400 will feature 17-inch alloy wheels and road-going tyres, the Street Scrambler 400 will use a 19-inch front wheel, a long-travel suspension setup, and perhaps even a different sub-frame. Both bikes will get a digital instrument cluster, full-LED lighting, and dual-channel ABS.
As far as engine specifications are concerned, we expect the new Triumph bikes to get a 400cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that is likely to produce close to 35bhp. What we do know is that this motor is likely to offer good low-end and mid-range torque, and could use a long-stroke architecture.
Looking at the features and hardware that it will offer, we expect the Triumph Street 400 to be priced around Rs. 2.60 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Street Scrambler 400 could be priced slightly higher at Rs. 2.80 lakh (ex-showroom).
