- Bajaj Urbanite scooter to make its debut tomorrow, 16 October
- To be powered by an all-electric motor
- Likely to get retro design and ride on 12-inch alloy wheels
The Bajaj Urbanite scooter is all set to make its debut in India tomorrow, 16 October.
While ‘Urbanite’ is the brand name, the scooter will have a different identity with some reports suggesting an ode to the legendary Chetak. Nevertheless, the upcoming scooter has been spied more than a couple of times revealing most of its design. And going by these spy images, the Bajaj Urbanite scooter sports a retro-inspired design that features a round headlamp along with chrome on its mirrors and front fender.
The scooter is likely to ride on 12-inch wheels with a single-sided suspension at the front similar and a monoshock at the rear. Meanwhile, a disc brake seems to be doing braking duties up front although it is unclear whether it will come with CBS or ABS. Bajaj has been secretive about the specifications and details about its upcoming product and will only be revealed at the launch.
Nevertheless, the Urbanite brand will be a foundation for the company’s future products. Bajaj is also looking to launch the petrol-powered version the same. The company is planning to launch the Urbanite brand in a phase-wise manner beginning with Pune and Bengaluru. As for the pricing of the scooter, we expect it to retail close to Rs 1 lakh, making it more affordable than its biggest competitor, the Ather 450 that costs Rs 1.08 lakhs (ex-showroom). a
