- Test mules were fully camouflaged
- Revealed LED tail lamps and grab rail
- Expected to debut by the third quarter of this year
It was in February that we had released the design sketches of Bajaj’s upcoming scooter which will be sold under its new brand – Urbanite. After three months now, test mules of the scooter have been spotted for the first time in India.
The scooters on test were fully camouflaged revealing very few details about the styling. What’s visible is a wide rear section integrating vertically-mounted LED tail lamps and a grab rail. These aspects look similar to what we had seen in the design sketches of the scooter. Moreover, the design of the mirrors also look identical to that we had witnessed in the illustration. Bajaj is going the retro way with the overall styling of the Urbanite scooter which will be similar to the Vespa models. The sketches revealed a round, handlebar-mounted headlamp, apron-mounted indicators, alloy wheels and a stepped seat. Moreover, it also features a single-sided front suspension.
There are no further details about this new Urbanite branded scooter. While we are sure the engine will be BS-VI compliant, the displacement is yet to be known. The design signifies that this will be a family scooter which further indicates towards several utilitarian features on this model.
Apart from the petrol-powered scooters, Bajaj will introduce Urbanite electric scooters as well. The test mules signify that the Chakan-based bikemaker is actively working on this new project and we expect Urbanite products to debut by the third quarter of this year.
