Bajaj has made its foray into the Malaysian market with the launch of the V15, Pulsar NS200 and the Pulsar RS200. The Pune-based manufacturer has tied up with Modenas, a local player, for its venture in Malaysia.
The V15 is being sold as a basic commuter motorcycle, retailing at MYR 5,989 (Rs 90,115). It gets the same 149cc air-cooled single-cylinder DTS-i engine delivering 12bhp and 13Nm of torque through a five-speed gearbox. The Pulsar models on the other hand, are being pitched as sporty motorcycles. The NS200 is priced at MYR 9,222 (Rs 1.38 lakh) while the RS200 retails at MYR 11,342 (Rs 1.70 lakh). Both get 200cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engines, mated to six-speed transmissions. The streetfighter is a carburetted bike delivering 24.5bhp and 18.6Nm of torque, while the fuel-injected RS200 produces one extra horsepower.
Bajaj is also expected to launch its flagship motorcycle, the Dominar 400, later in the year. According to the agreement between Bajaj and Modenas, all the motorcycles carry the latter’s badging. This should help generate volumes as Modenas has already established itself as a popular brand in the Malaysian market. Bajaj is also considering expanding to other south east Asian countries under this venture.
