- Sold only 30,238 units last year
- Might not get ABS variant
The V15 from Bajaj is considered to be a very special motorcycle. And rightly so, for this bike is built using the metal sourced from the famous INS Vikrant aircraft carrier. It’s also popular due to the marketing activities that Bajaj carried out during its launch. However, things fizzled out in 2018 and as a result, the bike might be discontinued this month.
The V15 is a 150cc entry-level premium commuter motorcycle that was developed for daily runabouts in the city. The styling was quite different from the rest of the bikes in the segment and that evoked a great sense of aspiration. However, the V15 hasn’t got in the expected numbers for Bajaj. The Pune-based manufacturer sold just 30,238 units of the V15 in 2018. The sales of this bike started seeing a slump in May 2018. In fact, it’s the same month Bajaj discontinued the V12 – a motorcycle that looks exactly like the V15 but gets a smaller 125cc engine.
We got in touch with a few Bajaj dealers regarding the same and most of them confessed focussing on high-selling products like the Pulsar range. There isn’t much pressure from the brand as well to push the sales of the V15. Bajaj hasn’t even equipped the V15 with ABS yet, which makes us believe that the company might discontinue the V15 post 1 April. Moreover, it doesn’t make sense to equip a bike with an expensive safety equipment that increases the overall cost when the bike doesn’t sell as much.
