There’s good news for some of us! The Royal Enfield Himalayan, the Bajaj V15 and the new Suzuki Access 125 have been given a go-ahead to begin official sales in New Delhi.
New Delhi's transport department has agreed to register new models of two-wheelers which are BS-III compliant from today. The same government body had banned the registrations of these models as they didn’t meet BS-IV emission norms, which will be applicable from April 1. Due to this ruling, a lot of enthusiasts were disappointed as they couldn’t buy the Himalayan – the first adventure bike to be made in India. But it looks like the Royal Enfield showrooms will be flooded with bookings for test rides, starting today.
For the launches planned after April 1, the two-wheeler manufacturers will have to bring a product with a BS-IV compliant engine. In fact, the companies will need to update the existing models to BS-IV by April 1, 2017. Basically, Royal Enfield, Bajaj and Suzuki will need to upgrade the engines of its recently launched bikes by then.
