There have been lot of speculations on the web about Bajaj’s comeback in the scooter segment. But during the launch of the Pulsar AS200 and AS150 yesterday, Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Motorcycles put all these rumours to rest.
As per Rajiv Bajaj, the company doesn’t have any plans to re-enter the scooter segment. He clearly said that the famous Chetak brand is not coming back. The company wants to focus only on the motorcycle segment and wants to specialise only in that. Maybe this is why we see Bajaj Motorcycles branding all over and not Bajaj Auto.
“We have no plans to re-enter the scooter segment. The Chetak is not coming back. We are a specialist motorcycle manufacturer. The history of companies worldwide shows that very successful companies were those that focussed on only one thing,” said Rajiv Bajaj, managing director, Bajaj Motorcycles.
The growth of scooter segment in India has been astonishing. It is growing faster than the motorcycles. This has prompted each and every two-wheeler market in the country to offer scooters that caters to wide range of audience. Bajaj on the other hand, wants to become the odd one out by focusing only on motorcycles. But there will come a time, when the scooters sales will pinch them. Will Rajiv then take back his words? Only time will tell.
