- Will get features similar to the Pulsar NS400X
- Likely to be launched by the end of 2024
On the sidelines of the Pulsar NS400Z launch, Bajaj Auto revealed that it is working on a revamped Dominar 400 for the Indian market. The motorcycle is expected to receive feature updates similar to the NS400Z, but more importantly, it will also go on a crash course to shed some of its heft.
The biggest Achilles heel of the Bajaj Dominar 400 is its porky kerb weight of 193kg. This makes it top-heavy and needs a bit of muscling around to switch it from side to side. Now, Bajaj hasn’t mentioned the exact changes that will be carried out, but it is safe to assume that the company will use lighter components to reduce its overall weight.
We can expect it to come equipped with lighter wheels to replace the diamond-cut units on the current model. Then, we can also expect Bajaj to use a box-type swingarm instead of the cast-aluminium unit on the existing version. Another area where the Dominar 400 can shed its weight is by using an underbelly exhaust system.
Besides the weight savings, the new Dominar 400 is also expected to receive features from the Pulsar NS400Z. So, it could come loaded with rider aids such as ride-by-wire throttle, switchable traction control system, multiple ride modes, and Bluetooth connectivity with turn-by-turn navigation.
Meanwhile, we don’t expect any changes to its powertrain. So, it will continue to be powered by a 373cc, liquid-cooled motor that produces 39.5bhp and 35Nm. Even the suspension and braking hardware could remain unchanged.
Bajaj hasn’t revealed the launch timeline of the new Dominar 400. But, given that the company will be busy with the launch of the CNG bike in June and the Triumph Thruxton 400 around the festive period, we can expect the new Bajaj Dominar 400 to launch sometime around the end of 2024.
