We all know that Bajaj and KTM are co-developing a new electric two-wheeler platform. The Chetak was one of the first ones. Now according to Pierer Mobility’s annual report, both the companies are planning to enter the electric moped segment in the next few years.
This e-moped will be made by Bajaj at one of the plants in India and will be sold in India as well. In fact, the company is planning to export this upcoming product to other markets as well. Currently, TVS is the only company that sells mopeds in India via the XL range of products. These mopeds will be light-weight in nature and will be powered by low power electric motors. In fact, there are likely to be more than one e-mopeds. This new platform will have electric vehicles in the power range between 3kW and 10kW.
The first electric moped will make its production debut in 2022. This model is likely to be sold under Bajaj brand. Once launched, we can expect this electric two-wheeler to become the most affordable electric two-wheeler in the country, unless TVS or Hero decides to enter that segment as well.
