- Bajaj looking at old scooter brands
- The new scooter might be called Chetak
Bajaj’s scooter plans are not really a secret anymore. In fact, a few months ago, we spoke about how the company’s new brand Urbanite could become a launch pad for its scooters.
Now, according to our sources, the company is planning to revive one of its old monikers under the Urbanite brand soon. While the Pune-based manufacturer has begun testing the electric scooter, our sources suggest that the petrol powered scooter will hit the market first. Also, the launch of the electric scooter is at least 18 months away.
The company had, in fact, considered a few old scooter names before shortlisting three – Chetak, Legend and Stride. While all the three have some good brand recall, Chetak appeared on the top. Hence, the company might consider it for their new scooter. The electric model will have the same name, but will be followed with a suffix to differentiate it from the petrol model.
The Urbanite range of products are likely to be sold under new showrooms. However, the initial batch could be sold through the existing Bajaj showrooms. When more products are introduced in the market, we believe the company would open brand-specific showrooms then.
