Benelli offers a 250cc maxi-scooter in south-east Asian markets called the Zafferano. The scooter has been spotted testing in Pune, Maharashtra, recently.
The scooter uses a 250cc, single-cylinder engine that generates 20.79bhp and 20.83Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a V-belt automatic transmission. It gets a dual-disc setup at the front while the rear gets a single disc. Suspension duties are performed by twin-telescopic shocks up front and an adjustable monoshock at the rear.
The Zafferano being a maxi-scooter is, well, maximum sized. It has a 1488mm wheelbase and 2168mm in overall length and weighs 155kg. The scooter which sits on 14-inch wheels also features a large 12 litre fuel tank. As for features, the Zafferano gets a semi digital speedometer, step-seat and a windshield.
Benelli has priced the Zafferano at around Rs 2.2 lakhs in Indonesia. And ever since the discontinuation of the Kinetic Blaze, the Indian market hasn’t seen a maxi-scooter. Although Benelli has started testing the Zafferano here, it is highly unlikely we will see the scooter sold in India. With only the Vespa range hovering close to the Rs 1 lakh bracket, the Indian market still has got a long time to go before a scooter worth Rs 2 lakh can retail here successfully.
