The Benelli Leoncino was once again spotted undergoing trials in Pune. Although the test mule was heavily camouflaged, the exhaust gives away the identity of the bike.
Globally, the Benelli Leoncino is available in two variants, a road-biased and a slightly off-road-focussed. In India however, it seems like DSK Motowheels will introduce just the former. While both the bikes are based on the same underpinnings, the road-biased Leoncino gets alloy wheels and road-biased tyres. The brake setup gets conventional round discs in place of petal discs. The Leoncino’s styling has been influenced by the company’s century-old heritage.
The Leoncino will go up against the likes of the Ducati Scrambler and the Triumph Street Twin. However, the powertrain is relatively smaller - a 500cc parallel twin engine which churns out 47bhp and 45Nm of torque. With the rise in demand for neo-retro and modern classic motorcycle, the Leoncino should turn out to be quite popular in the Indian market. We expect it to be launched in the first quarter of 2018.
